In her free time, she wanders through the wilderness and dodges mosquitoes as best she can. She speaks at birding festivals and nature clubs. She also co-authored the New York Times bestseller The Atlas Obscura Explorer’s Guide for the World’s Most Adventurous Kid and wrote the graphic novel Solar System: Our Place In Space. Her comics are collected in the book Birding Is My Favorite Video Game, named a 2019 ALA Great Graphic Novel for Teens. According to BirdWatching Magazine, “She is the rare humorist who understands nature and biology well enough to make even the most cranky birder crack a smile.” Her thoroughly researched Bird and Moon comics were the subject of an award-winning exhibit at Cornell’s Museum of the Earth and have appeared in publications ranging from Audubon to Nature Ecology & Evolution to Ranger Rick.

I hope these comics bring you as much delight as they have brought me over the years.Rosemary Mosco blends science, humor, and heart to create acclaimed books and comics about birds and other wildlife. I’m privileged to carry her art on my skin, but I’m more privileged to call her a friend.

She did so, and I got them-three lovely little cartoon birds on my left arm. When I eventually had the privilege to meet Rosemary in person, I did what any reasonable person would do and asked her to draw some birds to get tattooed onto my flesh. I’ve never met anyone else who cares so deeply and passionately for the world we live in, and that care is reflected in her work. She has an incredible knack for finding the cuteness in even the ugliest critters, and for presenting complex topics in an easy to understand manner-without compromising the facts. Her comics are gentle but powerful, clever and enlightening, beautiful and insightful. She tackles everything from the silly (newt reproduction!) to the scary (ocean acidification!) with a mixture of humor, hope, and deep knowledge of her subject matter. Since then, Rosemary has evolved into a truly remarkable nature cartoonist. The sweet nature of the story and the powerful iconography of the art was a delight, and I resolved to keep a close eye on her work in the future. My first exposure to Rosemary Mosco’s work came from the original Bird and Moon comic posted on a website of the same name.
